Lou Palma

Lou Palma has become the fourth executive director of the Boys and Girls Country’s home located in northwest Harris County.Palma follows Shirley Wright, who served in the role for 13 years and recently retired.
Palma began his career 35 years ago at Father Flanagan’s Boys Home and spent 24 years there, where he served in every role from direct service delivery to program director, regional director and director of admissions. He comes to Boys and Girls Country from Las Vegas, Nev., where he worked as the manager of child welfare services for the Clark County Department of Family Services.
He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Social Work from the University of Nebraska and master ’s degree in Human Development and Family Life from the University of Kansas.
Cheryl Fisher, an assistant principal at Sheridan Elementary School, was named the principal at Keith Elementary School. Fisher replaces Patty Mooney, who was named the principal at Labay Middle School.
Fisher has spent all of her career in public education with Cy-Fair ISD. She taught for two and a half years at Metcalf Elementary School and one year at Farney Elementary School before serving as instructional specialist at Farney for two years. She then took over as assistant principal at Sheridan, where she has been for the past six years.
Fisher received her Bachelor of Science from Southwest Texas State University and her Master of Education from the University of Houston. In addition to being certified as a principal, she holds certifications in Elementary Self-Contained and Elementary Early Childhood Education.
Bob the Builder, the loveable, hard-hat wearing, hard-working, internationally famous children’s character, is pitching in to help Texas Children’s Hospital promote the progress of the West Campus, its first suburban pediatric hospital that is under construction at I-10 and Barker Cypress in West Houston.
Colorful ads in local community publications and shopping mall kiosks feature scenes of Bob the Builder at the Texas Children ’s Hospital West Campus construction site, happily toiling beside the project’s real-life construction crew from Tellepsen Builders.
Although building a 530,000-square-foot medical complex is serious business for Texas Children ’s Hospital, the idea behind Bob the Builder’s presence in the ads is to remind families that the new West Campus is designed, equipped and staffed exclusively for children.
The ads featuring Bob the Builder are scheduled to run in West Houston-targeted media through October 2009.

Lone Star College – CyFair students Elizabeth Ambriz, Kristopher Whang and Dylan Schau are the winners of the tuition grand prize, the $300 book voucher and the IPOD shuffle, respectively.
The goal of this registration campaign was to encourage early registration (whether online, by phone or on-site), to avoid long lines and to see advisors or make payments, particularly during heavy registration periods.
