Cy-Woods 2010 Senior Parents wrap meeting, oct. 8
Cy-Woods’ WRAP general parent meeting will be held on Oct. 8 at 7 p.m. in the Commons
area at Cy-Woods High School. (Parents earn 5,000 WRAP bucks for attending).
WRAP (Wildcats Right After Prom) is Cy-Woods High School's parent-driven
Project Prom organization. The purpose of WRAP is to provide a drug and alcohol
free all-night party for graduating seniors and their guests after the prom.
Future general parent meetings are Nov. 5 and Dec. 3 in the Commons area of the

Carousel of Crafts Show, Oct. 2-3
The 2009 annual Carousel of Crafts show will be held on Oct. 2-3 from 9 a.m.-5
p.m. at Cypress Creek Christian Church, 6823 Cypresswood Drive in Spring.
Proceeds from the show are used to support the Women’s Ministry of the church. This includes the NAM Children’s clinic, Boy’s and Girl’s Country, The Bridges Community and the youth of the church.
hispanic heritage month celebration, oct. 10
The Fairbanks Branch of Harris County Public Library will celebrate Hispanic
Heritage Month on Oct. 10 from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. The library will have various
craft activities for children, face painting, music, refreshments, door prizes
and a pi

yoga classes at nam’s fifty plus center, oct. 14, 21, 28
Northwest Assistance Ministries’ Fifty Plus program is offering yoga classes in NAM’s main building, 15555 Kuykendahl, just south of FM 1960. Yoga classes will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Oct. 14, 21, 28 and Nov. 4, 11, 18.
Sonya Nelson leads the one-hour classes in Forrest yoga, a healing type of yoga
that addresses the physical and emotional challenges of modern-day living.
Fifty Plus is designed for active seniors age 50 and better and offers
opportunities for socialization, education and wellness. Members pay a one-time
$25 registration fee and a $1 daily user fee for activities to help cover
program expenses. Members also can buy a user fee pass each month for $10. For

SIX FLAGS FIESTA TEXAS FRIGHT FEST
It’s “thrills by day, chills by night” as Six Flags Fiesta Texas announces the return of Fright Fest 2009, the
wickedly fun cele
bration weekends in October where the park is transformed with haunting
creatures around every corner.
Fright Fest is featured weekends beginning Oct. 3 through Nov. 1. Hours of
operation are Fridays, 6 p.m.-11 p.m.; Saturdays, noon-9 p.m., and Sundays,
noon-8 p.m.
Experience the ultimate musical ensemble as the best musicians are resurrected
from the grave for one last performance during Last Chance Legends in Purgatory
Hall (The Zaragoza Theatre). With characters ranging from the
“the king” of rock Pelvis Wrestly, the dreadfully divine Scarylin Monroe, and Momma
Casket-Elliot, this over-the-top satire features a twist on classic musical
favorites accompanied by the live band The Skeletones.
Additionally, join all your favorite monster classics including Frankenstein,
Bride of Frankenstein, Dracula, Wolf Man and more during Creature Feature at
Rockville High. Performed on a cemetery themed set, this elaborate musical
experience contains a variety of genres and songs.

Thrill The World for the Largest Simultaneous Dance on Oct. 24 at 7 p.m. This
worldwide event will feature groups, organizations and gatherings of everyday
individuals all dancing at the same time to one of the nation
’s most popular hits Thriller, made famous by Michael Jackson. Anyone with admission to the park is welcome
to participate.

bayou city art festival downtown
Humpty Dumpty gets set to have a great fall in 2009, when bronze sculptor Kimber
Fiebiger reigns as featured artist of Houston
’s nationally-ranked Bayou City Art Festival Downtown on Oct. 10-11.
In addition to Fiebiger’s sculptures, the 300-artist juried fine art festival will offer clay,
drawing/pastel, fiber/textiles, furniture, glass, jewelry, leather, metal,
mixed media, painting, photography, printmaking, sculpture, watercolor and wood
media formats.
This is a one-of-a-kind outdoor gallery with its highly acclaimed mix of visual,
performing, culinary and interactive arts. Located in and around City
Hall/Hermann Square, the festival transforms Walker, Bagby and McKinney Streets
into pedestrian promenades lined with artists
’ booths where patrons can interact with artists one-on-one.
Other highlights include international food and wine cafes and Capital One Bank
Creative Zone, where children can experience the fun of making art projects.
New this fall will be the
“Epicurean Adventure” with wine tastings and professional chefs cooking demonstrations.

35th Annual Texas Renaissance Festival
The Texas Renaissance Festival, the nation’s largest, most acclaimed Renaissance theme park, announces the opening of its
35th season of adventure, merriment, music and romance. The festival is open to
the public every Saturday and Sunday from Oct. 10 through Nov. 29 (and Friday,
Nov. 27). In addition to the regular schedule are two school-day events held on
Tuesday and Wednesday, Oct. 27-28, in which the park is open exclusively to
public, private and home school groups. Each weekend features its own theme,
with special entertainment, contests and events to enhance the patron
’s experience.
Oktoberfest begins the eight themed weekends, followed by 1001 Dreams, Pirate
Adventure, All-Hallows Eve, Roman Bacchanal, Highland Fling, Barbarian Invasion
and ending with the three-day Celtic Christmas celebration. Set in an authentic
re-creation of a 16th century English village, the enchanted 53-acre park
offers something for everyone. Costumed performers inspire continuous laughter
on stages located throughout the festival with hundreds of daily performances.
Over 340 shoppes, overflowing with unique arts and crafts or offering delicious
foods and beverages, line shaded cobblestone walkways. Games of skill and
human-powered rides amuse the young and young at heart. Lush landscaped grounds
covered with beautiful gardens and vines remind all who visit of the joys of
nature. A perfect day ends with the spectacular Royal Fireworks held at dusk

LANGHAM CREEK HIGH SCHOOL THEATRE ENSEMBLE 2009-10 SEASON,
beginning Nov. 5-7
Langham Creek High School Theatre Ensemble announced its 2009-10 season
featuring several contemporary plays. All performances will be at Langham Creek
High School, 17610 FM 529. General admission tickets are $10; students and
seniors $8.
Moon Over Buffalo takes the main stage on Nov. 5-7 and Nov. 13-14. This romantic comedy takes
place in 1953 and centers on a dysfunctional acting couple, as they attempt to
make it to Broadway.
Proof will take the stage from Dec. 10-12. Proof received the Pulitzer Prize for Drama in 2001, as well as the Tony Award for
best play in the same year.
Proof centers around Catherine, the daughter of a famous, eccentric, mathematician
named Robert. Following Robert
’s death, Catherine is forced to deal with her own emotions, as well as the
arrival of her nitpicking sister.
The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged) by The Reduced Shakespeare Company will be performed on Feb. 4-6 and Feb. 12-13.
Do not be alarmed by the mention of Shakespeare
’s name; this is not an English class reading of his plays. In 90 minutes, the
entire collection of Shakespeare
’s plays is performed in a very comedic and entertaining way.

If the shoe fits women’s conference
National singer, songwriter and speaker Shannon Perry introduces a new series, “If the Shoe Fits.” This women’s conference is designed to teach women the importance of healthy relationships
with themselves, others and God.
If the Shoe Fits touches on a variety of women’s issues including balance, relationships, effective communication and
overcoming adversity. Perry uses her personal journey of heartbreak and healing
as a platform for the conference.
Perry, a resident of Cypress, Texas, left her position as a school administrator
in 2005 to pursue her love of singing, songwriting and speaking.
