boys and girls country hosts annual spring festival
The Boys and Girls Country Spring Festival will be held on May 2. This popular
event is B
&G Country’s second largest fundraiser of the year and the biggest family event that opens
the campus to the community.
With activities for all ages, the festival features a hay ride and pony rides,
obstacle courses, live entertainment, craft making, a train ride, cake walk,
plant sale and horseshoe pitching, to name just a few. Age-specific events
include a sand box and petting zoo for toddlers, live and silent auctions for
adults, extreme games for older children and a variety of food choices. Some of
the group homes will also be open for viewing.
Volunteers and donations are needed to pull off such a large event. To

The midway at Spring Festival features rides, games, activities for all ages,
food and merchandise booths, live entertainment and much more.
prom dress donations needed
Donate a prom dress to help replenish the Lone Star College-CyFair Library Prom
Closet that provides dresses for teens in need.
Each year, the Prom Closet provides free prom dresses, shoes, jewelry, new
makeup and accessories to teens in need from Cy-Fair ISD. In the past five
years, the Prom Closet has expanded to also provide dresses for teens from five
additional school districts.
Donations are accepted at the library customer service desk located on the
LSC-CyFair campus at 9191 Barker Cypress.
Back to the '80s at UpStage Theatre
UpStage Theatre presents Back to the ‘80s on Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m from May 8-30.
Back To The ‘80s tells the story of the senior class of William Ocean High School that graduated
in the 1980s as remembered and seen through the eyes of Corey Palmer, who is
now 30-something.

Kleb Woods Nature Center will have Birding Senior Bus Trips on May 1 and May 15

Sprint will host its Salute to Law Enforcement on May 2 from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. at
Willowbrook Mall.
This is the largest known single law enforcement exhibition that is open to the
public. More than 100 law enforcement agencies including FBI SWAT display, ATF
Bob Disposal Unit and other federal, state, county and local agencies will be
on hand. Guests can stop by the car safety seat check stations, view gang and
drug exhibits and check out the vehicles and weapons including helicopters,
hummers and ambulances.
PDK Chalk Walk, may 2
The Texas Lone Star chapter of Phi Delta Kappa International will host a local
Chalk Walk
—a national walk-a-thon for education—on May 2 from 9 a.m.-10:30 a.m. at Lone Star College-Tomball, 30555 Tomball
Parkway.
PDK is a nonprofit organization that supports education through research,
service and leadership. A celebration of outstanding teachers will kick off the
event as both students and educators recall those who have made a positive
difference in their lives.

The Big Read Intergenerational Kite Program is set for May 2 at 11 a.m.
The Big Read film viewing of To Kill a Mockingbird is scheduled for May 6 at 6 p.m.
Charles Shields, author of I am Scout, will visit on May 7 at 4 p.m.
