Livestock Show Winners Announced - Cypress-Fairbanks ISD raised almost $500,000 during the Cy-Fair ISD Livestock
Show and Sale. Amid hurricane recovery and a recent economic downturn, the
community displayed an overwhelming amount of generosity in the live auction,
freezer sale and additional monetary contributions to students.
The Premium Sale (live auction) raised $291,350, while the Freezer Sale (animals
not placing high enough for the live auction) garnered $126,597. Cy-Fair ISD
has received an additional $78,483.25 in contributions to students. The total
currently stands at $496,430.25.
“It’s a tribute to the fact that the community is doing everything they can to
support the school district and the students in a time that is difficult for
many people,
” said Denise Kubecka, secondary technology applications and business coordinator.
The Grand Champions were: Premium Broilers – Kevin Perry, Langham Creek HS; Premium Goat – Branton Provine, Cy-Fair HS; Premium Turkey – Catherine Gwosdz, Cy-Fair HS; Premium Lamb – Shelby Denison, Cypress Springs HS; Premium Rabbit – Tyler Stitt, Langham Creek HS; Premium Swine – Lauren Hazelrigs, Cypress Springs HS; Premium Steer – Meghan Martin, Jersey Village HS; Premium Heifer – Kristina Pederson, Cypress Woods HS; and Premium Breeding Rabbit – Ashley Abbott, Cypress Woods HS.
The Reserve Champions were: Premium Broilers – Troy Thornhill, Cypress Springs HS; Premium Goat – Rebecca Kleppel, Cy-Fair HS; Premium Turkey – Courtney Weimann, Cy-Fair HS; Premium Lamb – Tyler Miller, Cypress Springs HS; Premium Rabbit – Ashley Drake, Langham Creek HS; Premium Swine – Heather Kilway, Cypress Ranch HS; Premium Steer – John Paul Owen, Cypress Creek HS; Premium Heifer – John Paul Owen, Cypress Creek HS; and Premium Breeding Rabbit – Keeli Blackman, Cy-Fair HS.
Baseball Players Named to Preseason Team - Two Cy-Fair ISD baseball players were named to the Houston Athletic Committee
All-Greater Houston high school baseball team during the 24th annual Houston
Baseball Dinner.
Langham Creek High School senior pitcher/infielder Ryan Sedeño and Cy-Fair High School senior first baseman/pitcher Zach Thomas were selected to the team.
Thomas hit .519 as a junior with 29 RBI and five home runs in regular season
play, while Sede
ño hit .375 with 16 RBI and stole 15 bases.
Langham Creek High School senior Alice Yeh won Best of Show in the High School
division for her artwork,

Labay Middle School eighth-grade student De’Andra Lee won Best of Show
in the Junior High division for her

Rodeo Art Winners Announced - Cy-Fair ISD’s winners in the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo School Art Program are: High
School division, Langham Creek High School senior
Alice Yeh won Best of Show for her artwork, Waiting. Langham Creek senior Manuel Flores and Cypress Ridge High School junior Helen Han won gold medals for their artwork, Lonestar Chicken and Philip the Horse, respectively. Cypress Woods High School freshman Sarah Nielsen won a Special Merit award for her artwork, Rusted.
In the Junior High division, Labay Middle School eighth-grade student De’Andra Lee won Best of Show for her artwork, Whatcha Lookin’ At? and
Labay seventh-grade student Jaydi Segura won a gold medal for her artwork, Silent Country.
In the Elementary division, Danish Elementary School fifth-grade student Manuel Martinez won Best of Show for his artwork, Come Visit The Hay Loft. Fiest Elementary School fifth-grade student Patricia Barry won a gold medal for her artwork, Mustang Mirage.
Cy Woods Boys, Cy Ridge Girls Win District Wrestling Meet - The Cypress Woods High School boys and Cypress Ridge High School girls
wrestling teams won their respective District 21 meets.
Cypress Woods won the boys meet with 247 total points, followed by Langham
Creek, 217.50; Cypress Creek, 216.50; Cy-Fair, 188.00; Cypress Ridge, 161.00;
Jersey Village, 104.50; Cypress Ranch, 96; Cypress Springs, 94; Cypress Falls,
38; and Cypress Lakes, 36.
Cypress Ridge won the girls meet with 153 total points, followed by Cypress
Falls, 80; Cypress Creek, 77; Cy-Fair, 56; Langham Creek, 40; Cypress Springs,
34; Jersey Village, 20; Cypress Woods, 10;
and Cypress Lakes, 10.
Student Athletes Sign Letters of Intent - Student athletes at all eight Cy-Fair ISD high schools celebrated their
transition to the collegiate level by signing national letters of intent during
National Signing Day. The following student athletes signed letters of intent:
