participants needed for nam’s art for the hungry, march 14-28
Northwest Assistance Ministries needs participants for its 2010 Art for the Hungry event March 14-28 at Willowbrook Mall. The annual event kicks off NAM ’s Survival Over the Summer food drive, which collects cash and non-perishable food items to stock NAM ’s food pantry through the summer.
Interested groups can participate by being a builder or by hosting a food drive. Builders design and build a sculpture based on the theme “Larger than Life,” using a minimum of 1,000 non-perishable food items. The sculpture will be built on the evening of March 14 and will remain on display at the mall for two weeks. The building group will return to the mall on the evening of March 28 to dismantle their sculpture and load the food items onto the NAM truck. There will be trophies for the most popular sculptures in a variety of categories. Mall visitors vote for their favorite sculptures by putting coins in a collection bin by each display.
Groups that want to participate, but not as builders, can host food drives between March 1-April 30. All food must be delivered to NAM by April 30.
Art for the Hungry is open to all interested groups including congregations, schools, businesses, clubs and civic or professional associations. For more information, contact Tanecia Snid at 281-885-4608 or tsnid@namonline.org.
