The Sleep Medicine Center at Cypress Fairbanks Medical Center Hospital offers
sleep studies, or polysomnograms, for pediatric patients 11 and older.
Cypress Fairbanks Sleep Medicine Center features four private bedroom suites
offering diagnosis and treatment of a broad range of sleep/wake disorders under
the supervision of sleep specialists for both children and adults.
Cypress Fairbanks Sleep Medicine Center recommends a consulation with the child’s primary care provider. Based on an initial evaluation, a child’s physician may suggest an overnight sleep study to help make a proper diagnosis
and determine the severity of the problem.

Computer Classes at the Library, during june
Dave Smith, computer instructor, will be teaching seven different computer
classes at the Barbara Bush Branch Library in June. The classes are computer
basics, Introduction to the Internet, e-mail, MS Word, MS Excel, PowerPoint and
Publisher. Each class meets for one 2-hour session. As class size is limited to
12 people, pre-registration is required for each class. Registration is on a

Upcoming events at the Houston Arboretum this summer include:
The Houston Arboretum and Nature Center’s Nature Trekkers Summer Camps allow kids to experience many activities
including knot tying, orienteering, bug collecting (and releasing) and natural
art and crafts. Week-long classes offer hands-on learning experiences for
children ages 5 to 12 under the guidance of staff naturalists, and include both
indoor and outdoor activities at the 155-acre nature sanctuary.
Camp topics include: Winged Hunters, June 8-12 and July 13-17; Lifelines, June
15-19 and July 20-24; Outdoor Adventures, June 22-26 and July 27-31; Bug
Basics, June 29-July 3 or August 3-7; and Wild Science, July 6-10 or August
10-14.
Cost for full-day camp is $230 for members, $270 for non-members; limited
morning-only options are also available.
The Houston Arboretum & Nature Center in partnership with City ArtWorks will offer Summer Art Camp
classes from June 8-12, 3 p.m.-5 p.m. for ages 5 to 12.
Leaves, lizards, frogs, flowers, butterflies and birds—children will use nature, with all its beauty and its wonder, as inspiration
during this fun-filled week of creativity. The cost is $100 per child for week.

Participate in an unforgettable evening on June 26 from 8 p.m.-9 p.m. below the
Waugh Drive bridge over Buffalo Bayou. Naturalist Jaime Gonz
ález will lead a discussion on bats before thousands of Mexican Free-tailed bats
fly out at dusk to forage. Cost is $18 for members, $30 for non-members. Space

An Adult Art Workshop: Collographic Monoprinting on fabric/paper will be held on
June 27 from 10 a.m.-4 p.m.
Collographic monoprinting is a simple printing process that uses materials from
nature to create one-of-a-kind printed items that can be used for cards, gift
tags, notepaper, framed art or a pillow top.
The cost for the workshop is $115 for members, $145 for non-members and includes
materials. This class is one in a series of Art Workshops set for June 13, June
20 and June 27. Discounts are available for multiple class registration.

Harris County benefits fair for
Texas veterans, June 20
A free “come and go” benefits fair for Texas veterans will be held from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. on Saturday,
June 20, at the Stafford Centre, 10505 Cash Road, Stafford. The fair, targeting
all Houston area veterans, is one of several throughout the state.
Officials from the Texas Veterans Land Board will be on hand to provide
information on state programs including land, housing and home improvement
loans as well as Texas state veterans cemeteries and nursing homes for
veterans. Joining them will be representatives from the Texas Veterans
Commission, the Small Business Administration, the Social Security
Administration the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, and local Realtors and
lenders specializing in veterans loans who will be available to discuss federal
benefits and pending claims.
Veterans wishing to discuss pending claims with VA officials should bring
pertinent case information, including claim numbers if available. Veterans are
encouraged to drop in to learn more about their benefits any time between 10
a.m. and 1 p.m. and are not required to stay for the duration of the event.

Bridgeland and Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center Host Blood Drive, june 28
The Bridgeland community and the Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center are partnering
to host a blood drive on June 28 from 1 p.m.-5 p.m. The center
’s bloodmobile will be parked at Bridgeland’s Welcome Center, 16919 North Bridgeland Lake Parkway.
People can donate every three months and should expect the entire donation
process
—from registration to post-donation refreshments—to take about an hour. Individuals who are at least 17 years old, weigh a
minimum of 110 pounds and are in good health can donate. Those who are 16,
weigh at least 122 pounds, are in good health and have their parents
’ consent can also participate.
Donors should drink plenty of fluids and try to eat iron-rich foods (red meat,
iron-fortified cereal or green, leafy vegetables) 1 to 2 hours before donating.
