Sampson Stackers Collect Medals at Worlds - Sampson Elementary School sport stackers represented Cy-Fair ISD at the World Sport Stacking Association World Championships in Denver, Colo., claiming eight medals and one world record.
Sampson’s 8U Relay team, the Sampson Chargers, won gold medals in all three relay events, breaking the world record in the 3-6-3 Timed Relay event by more than two seconds with a time of 18.80. The Chargers ’ team members, Garrett Martin, Benjamin He, Charles St. Clair and Emma Slabach, all placed in the top 10 in the world in their individual events.  
The 7U Relay team, the Sampson Sharks, won gold in all three relay events and team members Blake Weldon, Colby Brennan, Danica Gubic and Alejandro Montoya came in the top 10 in the world in their individual events. Gubic also won a silver medal in the Cycle event.
The 9/10 Relay team, the Sampson Blazers, won a bronze medal in the 3-6-3 Relay event. The team members are Austin Gallagher, Alex Niall, Nirav Lalsinghani and Christian Taulli. Niall also placed 10th in the world in the Cycle event.
Charlotte French is the Sampson PE teacher and stacking coach.

Manuel Martinez’s artwork won Best of Show in the Reliant Energy Power of Art People’s Choice Voting Contest.
Danish Student’s Artwork Named Best of Show - Danish Elementary School fifth-grade student Manuel Martinez was one of three Best of Show winners in the Reliant Energy Power of Art People’s Choice Voting Contest, part of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo.
Martinez’s artwork, Come Visit the Hayloft, won enough online votes before the deadline to earn Best of Show. For winning, Martinez earned $1,000 in art supplies for Cy-Fair ISD, $1,000 in art supplies for Danish and a Power of Art package.
Martinez qualified for the contest by receiving Best of Show in the Elementary division of CFISD ’s Rodeo School Art Program.
At the rodeo, Martinez was also awarded a scholarship to attend The Museum of Fine Arts –Houston Glassell School of Art this summer.

Ogwumike Receives PARADE All-America Team Honor - Cy-Fair High School junior girls basketball player Chiney Ogwumike was selected to the PARADE 2009 All-America High School Girls Basketball team.
The 6-foot-3-inch post player was named to the Second Team of four. She was one of only 40 athletes from the nation and six players from Texas to receive this high honor.
Chiney led District 15-5A in scoring with 20.8 points per game and was second in district rebounding with 11.2 per game. She was also second in steals with 3.3 a game. She led the Lady Bobcats to an undefeated district record as they advanced to the state semifinals.
The 33rd annual PARADE All-America High School Girls Basketball team was selected by a group of coaches, scouts, recruiters and a battery of other professionals, and coordinated by fitness editor Dr. Michael O’Shea.
Chiney Ogwumike has been selected to the PARADE 2009 All-America High School Girls Basketball team.

Cy Springs Athletes Sign Letters of Intent - Six Cypress Springs High School senior athletes signed letters of intent to their respective universities and colleges for 2009-10: Dalton Blonstein, baseball, McMurry University; Brittany Upton, softball, Texas Lutheran University; Jessica Leiva, soccer, St. Gregory University; Cynthia Diaz, soccer, Prairie View A&M; Zachary Winkelmann, student athletic trainer, Texas Lutheran University; and Imani Spivey, track and field, Central Arizona College.
Cypress Ridge AFJROTC Wins Distinguished Unit Award - The Cypress Ridge High School Air Force Junior ROTC unit was selected as one of 393 units to receive the 2008-09 AFJROTC Distinguished Unit Award —its fourth consecutive year to receive this honor.
The Cypress Ridge AFJROTC Unit TX-20028 is coordinated by Lt. Col. Steven Rakel and Master Sgt. Merel Mills.
