FAFSA-Made-Easy program, feb. 5
The Cypress-Fairbanks ISD guidance and counseling department will host a 2009
FAFSA-Made-Easy program on Feb. 5 from 7 p.m.-9 p.m. at the Berry Center, 8877
Barker Cypress Road.
The FAFSA-Made-Easy Workshop provides students and parents with instructions for
completing the free application for Federal Student Aid. Students can pick up a
ticket from the counseling office for free admittance to the event.
Parents and students will need to bring the following items to complete the
application process: driver
’s license and social security card; W-2 forms and other records of money earned
in 2008; 2008 U.S. income tax return (IRS form 1040, 1040A, 1040EZ or 1040TEL);
records of untaxed income, such as welfare, social security or veterans
benefits; current bank statements; current mortgage information (excluding
primary home); business and farm records; and stocks, bonds and other
investment records.
Presentations will be given in both Spanish and English. For more information,

Salute to Our Heroes, Feb. 7
The Cy-Fair Educational Foundation “Salute to Our Heroes” event will be held on Feb. 7 from 6:30 p.m.-9 p.m. at the Northwest Forest
Conference Center.
Salute to Our Heroes will honor the brave men and women who served to preserve
our freedom and liberty. Proceeds from this event will go to an endowment in
the memory of fallen soldiers, enabling
graduating students from CFISD to attend college. The foundation has awarded
more than $3 million in scholarships since 1970.
Inspirational speakers and entertainment featuring the Texas A&M Singing Cadets as well as live and silent auctions will highlight this special
evening.
Sponsorship opportunities are available ranging from $150-$3,000. Individual
tickets are $50 or $25 for veterans.

The Barbara Bush Branch Library and the E.B.O.N.Y. organization will join forces
for the 20th Annual African American Read-In. Activities are planned for
adults, teens and children on Feb. 8 from 2 p.m.-4 p.m. Kathy Culmer, author
and storyteller, will be the featured guest for the children. She will tell
African and African-American folk tales. There will also be other activities
for the children. Authors Reshonda Tate Billingsley, Gwen Richardson and Oswald
Scott are some of the featured guests for this event. Come, discuss and hear
excerpts from their various novels.
Join local author Fran Padgett for an open discussion of her second book Breast Cancer: No One Chose This Journey on Feb. 11 and Feb. 15 from 2 p.m.-4 p.m. Padgett will also display selected
paintings featured in her book.These emotion-laden, often symbolic works are
from two of her private collections, the Gift of Time series, and Other side of
the Mountain series.

Cy-fair isd choirs perform local concerts
The Langham Creek High School A Cappella Choir, the Goodson Middle School Boys
Choir and the Labay Middle School Boys Choir are the three Cy-Fair ISD choirs
that will perform at the Texas Music Educators Association
’s annual convention.
The choirs will hold a Houston performance on Feb. 3 at 7 p.m. at The Foundry
United Methodist Church, 8350 Jones Road.
This event is free and open to the public.
