Langham Creek AFJROTC to Perform at National Event - The Langham Creek High School Air Force Junior ROTC has been selected to
represent the Air Force at the National High School Drill Team Championship in
Daytona Beach, Fla., on May 2-3.
The four primary branches of the military will send their finest schools to
compete during the weekend. The Langham Creek unit was accepted at the AFJROTC
Masters Level to compete in an all-service format.
Drill teams may enter any of the five events featured in the AFJROTC Masters
Level: Unit Inspection, Squad/Element Regulation, Color Guard, Squad/Element
Exhibition and Platoon/Flight Exhibition.
“We are extremely proud of the determination and character of our cadets,” said MSgt. Anthony Bullock, USAF (Ret.) and Langham Creek AFJROTC director. “The fact that we've been accepted into this prestigious drill and ceremony
competition says volumes about the overall quality of our unit as well as the
cadets within it. I believe
this will be a competitive experience to be remembered for a lifetime.”
TMEA Honors All-State Music Students - Forty-two students from Cy-Fair ISD have been selected to Texas Music
Educators Association all-state organizations. To achieve all-state status,
students begin auditions in November with thousands of music students across
the state.
Students are selected to All-Region, All-Area and All-State band, choir and
orchestra. Less than 1 percent of the students entered achieve this award
—the highest accomplishment a music student may achieve in Texas.
The students will participate in the TMEA Clinic and Convention Feb. 10-13 in
San Antonio
—the largest music educator convention in the United States. While at the
convention, students will rehearse and perform with renowned conductors from
all over the world.

Football Players Make THSCA Academic All-State Team - Thirty-two Cy-Fair ISD football players were selected to the Texas High School Coaches Association 2009-2010 Academic All-State Football Team. The teams are selected by a point
system that awards points for GPA, class rank and SAT or ACT scores.
Three district athletes were named to the Elite Team, representing the highest
possible point total:
Andrew Hall, senior, Cypress Woods High School; Steven “Ross” Fly, senior, Jersey Village High School; and Garrett Granier, senior, Jersey Village.
First team academic all-state players are as follows: Cy-Fair High School – Ryan Efaw, Matthew Vermilyea and Ben Zavala. Cypress Falls High School – Warren Rooney. Cypress Ridge High School – Seth Spaulding. Cypress Woods High School – Darron Giron II, Cyrus Iqbal, Travis Strahan and Derek Whitmire. Jersey Village High School – Zachary Moran.

LSC-CyFair Students Earn Entrepreneurship Awards - Two Lone Star College-CyFair students and business owners start their spring
semester and new year as the college
’s first Student Entrepreneurship Award recipients.
Balancing school, work and family is difficult enough for many college students.
Then add the pressure of running a business to the mix. But for award-winner
Toni Scott Grant and award runner-up Heather Diaz, their business is their passion and their education goals only enhance their
future success.
Grant is owner of Scott Phree Boutique, a fun, youth-driven business that
carries clothing and accessories geared for ages 18 to 45. She started her own
business online in 2005 and now has a storefront boutique in Montrose.
Marketing efforts for her photography business, eventually running her studio
full-time and to continue her pursuit of a bachelor
’s in accounting are goals for Diaz, who is owner and photographer of Sunshine
Studios. Diaz started her business in 2005 as a way to help pay for her
wedding.
Volleyball Players Named to All-State, Academic All-State Teams - Two Cy-Fair ISD volleyball players were named to the Texas Girls Coaches
Association Class 5A All-State team and 13 were named to the 5A Academic
All-State team.
Cy-Fair High School senior Chiney Ogwumike and Cypress Woods High School freshman Chloe Collins were named to the All-State team.
The following students were named to the Academic All-State team: Cy-Fair High
School
– Chiney Ogwumike and Madison Smith; Cypress Creek High School – Ashley Vrana; Cypress Falls High School – Kendall Courtney, Sydney Dwoskin, Alyse Grumbles and Kellsey Reed; Cypress Woods High School – Alex Schneider and Bronte Vereb; Jersey Village High School – Chelsea Koh, Samantha Ladewig, Kylie Mauer and Ashlyn Seifert.
Warriors Prevail as Basketball Tournament Champs - The Cypress Christian School Warriors Middle School boys’ basketball team took championship honors in the Faith West double elimination
basketball tournament on Jan. 9.
The basketball team began the day at 10 a.m. with a loss to Fort Bend Baptist
and ended on a good note 13 hours later with a win against Northland Christian
at 11 p.m.
After the first loss, the Warriors moved to the losers bracket. In order to get
out of the losers bracket, they had to win five games in a row to make it to
the championship. Cypress Christian Warriors came out on top with five wins,
defeating Baytown Christian (27-25), Fort Bend Baptist (36-28), Kandy Stripe
(38-22) and Northland Christian (47-46), advancing to the championship game
against Northland Christian.
Cypress Christian, playing their eighth game of the day, and Northland
Christian, playing their fifth game of the day, faced off for the championship
game. Cypress Christian prevailed with a four-point victory of 35-31.
Team members are: Ryan Heller, Hunter Kocian, Grayson Beck, Robert Geyer, Britt Bell, Wesley Hill, Andrew Wilson, Layne Jackson and Julian Logan. Coaches are Tyler Martin and Kenny Ellis.
