While inside, a comfy chenille sofa and matching oversized chair provide great
viewing to the outside as well.
“We just love the big chair. We positioned it this way so we can just sit here
and look out over the pond. We don
’t really watch TV much, ” explains Rita.
Linen curtains finish off this room, complementing the Sherwin Williams Relaxed
Khaki paint color on the wall. Rita chose ceiling accent colors throughout the
house. In the living room, Quiver Tan does the trick.
“I just think it adds an interesting look to add an accent,” she says.
The kitchen is light and bright with creamy granite countertops that match the
cabinets and an oversized island that perfectly accommodates meals for two. The
island
’s base is cleverly painted in a contrasting color, a weathered maple sage.
The adjacent breakfast room with wine nook and buffet has abundant views of the
outdoors as well. A round table in cheery veneer with a black rub-through
distressed finish base occupies this space with chairs to match.
More than anything, the couple wanted the relaxation element to carry through to
the inside. No where is this more evident than in the sitting room off the
master bedroom, outfitted in rattan, sheers, tropical fabrics and mementoes of
the couple
’s marriage on the Cayman Islands. “We call it our Tommy Bahama room,” says Rita, chuckling.
The master bedroom continues this “vacation at home” theme with tropical elements showing up on the pillows and bedding. Even the
bases of the nightstand lamps resemble palm trees. The overall tranquil affect
is furthered by choice of paint color, an earthy Sherwin Williams Macadamia
with a ceiling accent in Dapper Tan. Two chairs that recline all the way back
were reupholstered to suit this mood.
“My daughter is a grown woman and I got those when she was a baby,” recalls Rita. “I just can’t get rid of them. They’re too comfy.”
Even the laundry room in this house is cute with washboards as art on the walls.
Rita looks back to the day she moved into her new home and appreciates how
welcoming the community was. She and her husband are members of Crossroads
Baptist Church where she is involved in a women
’s ministry called “After the Boxes.”
