Cy Woods Athletes Sign with Colleges - Seven Cypress Woods High School senior athletes signed national letters of
intent to play collegiate athletics for the 2009-10 school year during a
signing party in the Cypress Woods gymnasium.
Volleyball players Caleigh McCorquodale and Shannon McClean signed with Texas State University and the University of North Carolina at
Charlotte, respectively. Swimmer Seraphina Van signed with Purdue University. From the baseball team, Michael Hilliard signed with Sam Houston State University, Jeremy Fant signed with Rice University and Andy Lada and
Casey Grayson signed with Navarro College.
TMEA Honors All-State Music Students - Forty-four students from Cypress Fairbanks ISD were selected to the Texas
Music Educators Association All-State Band, Choir and Orchestra
—the result of an elimination process that began in November.
Achieving all-state status is the highest honor a music student may achieve. The
students were selected from thousands of students statewide. The all-state
groups are comprised of about 1 percent of all the music students in Texas.

The students will perform at the TMEA 2009 Clinic and Convention, to be held
Feb. 11-14 at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center in San Antonio.
OfficeMax Recognizes Lowery Teacher - Lowery Elementary School art teacher Anna Jones was selected as the OfficeMax Teacher of the Year this fall.
Mario Fuentes, a representative from OfficeMax, surprised Jones at the school in October with
a certificate and several gifts including flowers, a new office chair, digital
camera with memory cards and a box of classroom supplies to use in her art
classes.
Peggy Bateman, Lowery secretary to the principal, nominated Jones for the award. “Anna was so surprised. She is deserving of this award as she sees every student
in our building and makes such a positive impact on their lives,
” Bateman said.
