Smith MS Students Win National Art Awards - Two Smith Middle School students were named winners in the national Crayola
Dream Makers competition, and their artwork will be displayed at the U.S.
Department of Education in Washington, D.C., and its offices around the
country.
Three winners were chosen from each grade level. Sixth-grade students Mikhaela Sarmiento and Samantha Miller, taught by art teacher Savannah Nichols, were selected from among 166 sixth-grade entries.
The students were asked to discuss what creativity means to them and why it is
important to the world, then illustrate the problems that could have a creative
solution and write about them.
Each student’s original artwork will be framed, donated and exhibited in the offices of the
Department of Education, and each will receive a plaque replica of the original
artwork.
Cy-Fair Girls B-Ball Team Wins 5A State Championship - The Cy-Fair High School girls’ basketball team clinched its second state championship in the last three
seasons.
Senior Chiney Ogwumike ended her career as a Bobcat on a high note, pouring in 31 points and grabbing
18 rebounds on the way to earning unanimous 5A Tournament MVP honors.
“This feeling is indescribable,” Coach Ann Roubique said. “Winning a state championship is one of those things that everyone wants and
everyone desires. This group of kids made their minds up and worked together;
it
’s amazing what you can do when you have a dedicated group with this kind of
chemistry.
”
Senior guard Aarika Reyna said it was the best possible way she could have ended her career at Cy-Fair.

Cy Ranch Choir Performs at Rockets Game - The Cypress Ranch High School choir performed The Star-Spangled Banner prior
to the start of the Houston Rockets home game against the Utah Jazz on Feb. 16.
Choir director Cynthia Douglas submitted an audition of their recording of the anthem arranged by Lloyd Pfautsch in May, and was notified that the choir was chosen for a performance in the
fall.

Cy-Fair Softball Player Signs with Angelina College - Cy-Fair High School senior softball player Hailey Peet signed a national letter of intent to play for Angelina College. Hailey, a first
baseman and pitcher for the Bobcats, will compete in the National Junior
College Athletic Association for the Roadrunners next season.
“Hailey has been a key player for Cy-Fair. She has helped lead us to several
playoff games and is a true threat on offense,
” said Cy-Fair coach Debbie Burrow. “Hailey has stepped up this year and has become a leader on our Bobcat team. We
are proud to have Hailey and wish her continued success.
”


All-district Boys Basketball Team Released - The All-District 15-5A Boys Basketball Team was released, with 34 Cy-Fair ISD
student-athletes earning First Team, Second Team and Honorable Mention
recognition.
Additionally, 23 players were named to the Academic All-District Team.
Superlative awards went to Langham Creek High School senior
Mackey McKnight, Most Valuable Player; Cy-Fair High School sophomore Chase Brogna, Newcomer of the Year; Cypress Ridge High School junior Brandon Swannegan, Defensive Player of the Year; and Cypress Woods High School head coach Chris Draudt, Coach of the Year.

Destination ImagiNation Competitors Qualify for State - One-hundred twenty teams representing Cypress-Fairbanks ISD schools
participated in the Gulf Coast Regional Destination ImagiNation Competition in
February.
Thirty-one of the 120 teams brought home 45 awards: two DaVinci Awards, given
for outstanding creativity; five Renaissance awards, given for unusual
solutions, skill and excellence of design; one Spirit of Discovery and
Imagination award, given for the team that sets the standard of positive team
interaction and collaboration; 10 third-place awards; 10 second-place awards
and 17 first-place awards.
Twenty-one winning teams will compete in the Texas Destination ImagiNation State
Competition, which will be held in Carrollton, Texas, on April 16-18.

Cypress Ranch Students Qualify for National Thespian Competition - In only its second year of existence, Cy-Ranch High School will be sending nine
students to National Thespian Competition in Lincoln, Neb., in June.

Cypress Christian School’s Rodeo Art Winners - Select students from Cypress Christian School entered art projects in the
2010 Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo Art Competition. Art teachers
Michele Bennett and Thomas Martin announced the following winners: Blue Ribbon – Britney Bailey, Olivia Delaune, third grade; Zach Cannon, Joshua Holl fouth grade; Red Ribbon – Hannah Hurst, Matthew Kooiman, fifth grade; Cecilia Mendez, sixth grade; White Ribbon – Maddy Carr, fourth grade; Shelby Zerwas, fifth grade; Kylie Miller, sixth grade; 2-D Drawing Contest - Second place ribbons - District – Lizzie Hilton, sophomore; Sarah Longridge, junior; Martha Miller, junior; 3-D contest (Sculpture) - First Place Ribbons - District – Ben Bennett, sophomore; Lexus Van Pelt, junior.
Bennett and Longridge also participated in the Quick Draw Contest for Rodeo Art
in February at Reliant Center. They were part of the 52 students who were
selected out of 350 students. Of the ones who qualified, only three were from
private schools. Ben and Lisa received a certificate to attend one art class at
the Glassell Junior School.

One of the biggest challenges parents face is finding safe and appropriate
activities to keep their kids active and engaged during the summer. As a
Christian Camp, CHO-YEH is committed to providing a place where relationships
are built and lives are impacted in a Christ-centered environment. With that
mission in mind, Cho-Yeh has a staff of college counselors that are second to
none. They are committed to their faith in Jesus Christ, and they want to share
their faith with the campers by building relationships with them through fun
and active activities. Campers choose the activities they want to participate
in like swimming, blobbing, canoeing, paintball, fishing, football, soccer,
riflery, archery, skeet shooting, wake boarding, banana boating and much more.
Cho-Yeh offers one- and two-week sessions for campers aged 6-16. Check them at
Family Fun Day on April 11 from 10:30 a.m.
